BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has likened Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus to the late President Ziaur Rahman, saying Yunus’s recent statements reminded him of Bangladesh’s independence proclaimer.
Speaking at the NRB Connect Day in New York on 27 September, Fakhrul recalled Yunus’s speech at a US-Bangladesh business roundtable, saying, “It repeatedly felt to me as if I was hearing the voice of Ziaur Rahman.” He added that Yunus reflected Zia’s vision of a democratic, prosperous, and corruption-free Bangladesh.
Fakhrul also mentioned the July Uprising, describing Bangladeshis as natural fighters who unite in times of crisis. He is among six political leaders accompanying Yunus to the 80th UN General Assembly, including BNP’s Humayun Kabir, Jamaat leaders Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher and Mohammad Nakibur Rahman, and National Citizen Party representatives Akhter Hossen and Dr. Tasnim Jara.
