An assistant teacher named Manibul Haque Basunia from Abul Kashem Government Girls' Primary School in Kurigram has been temporarily suspended for posting critical comments on Facebook about Professor Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy Poddar, Advisor to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. The suspension, confirmed by Kurigram District Primary Education Officer Swapan Kumar Roy Chowdhury, follows a directive citing that Basunia’s social media posts tarnished the government's image. The suspension was made under misconduct rules and social media guidelines for government employees.
Manibul explained that his Facebook post was a reaction to remarks made by the advisor during a teachers' program in Chittagong months earlier, where teachers demanded a 10th-grade qualification. The advisor reportedly insulted the teachers and told them to quit if they were unhappy. Manibul protested this attitude on Facebook, stating that the advisor, being a doctor, should return to his profession instead of insulting teachers. He expressed confusion over why he is being suspended now for his post.
