Osama S. M. Khan has been appointed vice-chancellor and chief executive of the University of South Wales, becoming the first Bangladeshi to lead a public university in the United Kingdom. Currently the deputy vice-chancellor for academic affairs at Aston University, he will take over in May, succeeding Ben Calvert.
Khan brings extensive experience in higher education leadership, digital transformation, curriculum development and student experience, shaped by his previous roles at the University of Surrey and Solent University.
Born in Jessore and educated in Bangladesh before completing postgraduate studies at the University of Cambridge, he previously worked in investment banking across the Middle East and South Asia. Over his academic career, he has taught nearly sixteen thousand students.
Expressing pride in his new role, Khan emphasized his commitment to inclusive education and meaningful social impact, while the university’s Board of Governors praised his values-driven leadership and forward-looking vision for the institution's next chapter.
