A ninth-grade student from a secondary school in Jashore was severely beaten and injured by a teacher on Saturday. According to the father of the victim, the student, who studies in the humanities department at Sharsha Government Model Pilot Secondary School, was assaulted by teacher Shahidul Islam because he was not wearing the required school uniform.
The father, Mominur Rahman, who works at a brick kiln, explained that his son was beaten for not being able to afford the uniform. Mominur mentioned that the school had previously told his son to obtain the uniform within seven days. However, the boy was only able to manage the school shirt, and the trousers were yet to be bought.
On Saturday, the boy went to school wearing only the shirt, with the assurance that the trousers would be bought soon. According to Mominur, when the ninth-grader arrived at school wearing the incomplete uniform, teacher Shahidul took him to the school’s lab room and mercilessly beat him. Mominur said, "When my son fell to the ground, the teacher continued to torment him."
