Amid security concerns, the court held a late-night hearing on the remand plea for the accused in the rape case of an eight-year-old child in Magura. The hearing took place after midnight on Monday.
Following the proceedings, the court approved the remand plea, granting a seven-day remand for the main accused, Hitu Mia (42), who is the brother-in-law of the victim’s sister. Additionally, the victim’s brother-in-law, Sojib Hossain (18), along with his brother Ratul Sheikh (17) and their mother Jabeda Begum (40), were each placed on a five-day remand.
Notably, no defense lawyers were present at the hearing. However, the court allowed the accused to speak in their own defense. They denied the allegations and pleaded not to be remanded.
The investigating officer emphasized the urgency of interrogating the accused, stating that the victim, who remains unconscious at CMH in Dhaka, has not yet been able to provide a statement.
