People’s Movement Unstoppable Against Fascist Regime: Gayeshwar
BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Saturday said that when the people take to the streets to oust a fascist regime, no amount of force or support can keep such a government in power.
“No matter how much backing they have, it won’t be enough to sustain them,” he said while speaking at a human chain demonstration in front of the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka. The event was held to demand the immediate release of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Dhaka District BNP President Khandaker Abbas, and other arrested party leaders and activists.
Criticising the government's financial management, Gayeshwar said, “The country’s economy has been defeated by corruption. The treasury is empty, and the state is nearing a point where it won’t be able to pay salaries. Revenue officials have nothing left to do except extort small businesses.”
He also claimed that the construction of 17 development projects has been suspended due to a lack of funding.
Gayeshwar further alleged that Khaleda Zia is being held unlawfully and that Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is facing injustice in multiple legal cases, calling it part of an ongoing oppression campaign.
He also accused the government of widespread corruption, money laundering, and mismanagement of foreign reserves.
Other BNP leaders, including Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Benazir Ahmed Titu, and Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal General Secretary Sultan Ahmed, also addressed the protest. The event was moderated by Dhaka District BNP General Secretary Nipun Roy Chowdhury.
