The Proctorial Team of Jahangirnagar University (JU) apprehended a fake student in possession of a counterfeit Harvard University ID card. The incident occurred early on Wednesday (March 6) at the university’s Jatiyo Kobi Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall.
The individual, identified as 22-year-old Abu Huraira from Mirpur village in Sirajganj Sadar Upazila, had been frequently seen in room 213 of the hall, which aroused suspicion among students. His inconsistent responses and actions when questioned led students to confine him in a nearby room and notify the Proctorial Team. Upon their arrival, the team discovered the fake Harvard University ID card, along with several other fake IDs from various schools and colleges.
When asked about the fake Harvard ID, Huraira claimed, "I made it just for fun. I had no ill intentions and didn’t use it to deceive anyone." However, upon further questioning, he admitted to pretending to be a student at Jahangirnagar University’s Law Department, Dhaka University’s Institute of Business Administration (IBA), and even Harvard University to his friends, relatives, and family.
Adnan Farid, a first-year Anthropology student and resident of the hall, recalled the incident: "We had seen him around the hall multiple times. When we asked him about his identity, his answers didn’t add up. His behavior seemed off, so we contacted the Proctorial Team. After the authorities questioned him, his deception was uncovered, and he was taken to the Proctor's Office."
