A global strike has been called for Monday to protest the ongoing genocide in Gaza, following a viral post from the page Translating Falasteen. People across social media are rallying behind the cause, urging action on a worldwide scale.
In support of this movement, students from CUET and DIU have also joined in. A statement from CUET students declared, "GLOBAL STRIKE FOR GAZA - APRIL 7TH, 2025. As students of Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET), we stand united with the people of Gaza. In response to the global call for action on Monday, April 7th, we are participating in the strike—no classes, no labs, no normal activities. We refuse to remain silent while innocent people are being bombed, starved, and erased. This is not just a political stance, but a moral duty. Let us raise our voices beyond digital platforms—connect, protest, mobilize, and act. We urge all CUETians and students across Bangladesh to take part in this peaceful resistance. 'Until the genocide ends, we strike.'"
Meanwhile, Translating Falasteen's post echoed the call to action: "GAZA HAS CALLED FOR A GLOBAL STRIKE THIS MONDAY, APRIL 7TH, 2025. It is our collective responsibility to answer this call. No school. No universities. No work. Until the genocide ends. We cannot remain passive while an entire population faces starvation, bombing, and erasure. Let’s unite for this cause—connect, protest, mobilize, and take action." The origins of this movement remain unclear.
