A CNG-powered autorickshaw driver in Bogra, Khairul Islam Khokon, is being praised for his remarkable honesty after returning 18 gold ornaments worth over 25 lakh taka and Tk 15,000 in cash left behind by a passenger. The items belonged to jewelry trader Mohammad Shahin from Pabna, who had accidentally left the bag in the autorickshaw on March 29 while rushing to catch a bus.
Khairul, a 25-year-old second-year Management student at Bogra Government Shah Sultan College, found the bag after the passenger got off and began searching for the owner. Failing to locate him, he informed Traffic Sergeant Alamgir Hossain. The police later traced the driver using CCTV footage and returned the items to Shahin on April 4 at the Sadar Police Station in Khairul’s presence.
The honest act has earned Khairul immediate recognition from the police, and the Superintendent of Police is set to honor him officially on April 7. Shahin also provided financial assistance to support Khairul’s studies. Khairul, who drives to support his education and family, said his mother encouraged him to return the lost items, adding, “It’s not about the money or gold—it’s about doing the right thing.”
