As Australia continues to strengthen its bilateral ties with Bangladesh, the Albanese Labor Government has announced the establishment of a new ‘Home Affairs Office’ in Dhaka.
Australian Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke, MP, shared the news on Thursday, highlighting that the initiative stemmed from discussions during his recent visit to Bangladesh. "This was raised with me on my recent visit to Bangladesh, and I’m pleased we’ve been able to work with the interim government to make it happen," he stated.
According to the Australian Ministry, this decision underscores the shared commitment of both nations to facilitating safe and regulated migration pathways while actively working to prevent irregular migration and combat people smuggling.
