Students from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology have developed an innovative concept for a floating house to combat Bangladesh's recurring flood issues. The project, titled "Tori," is engineered to float during floods and return to its original position once the water recedes. Abdullah Al Naim, one of the students involved, explained, "We embraced the challenge of designing a sustainable home with construction costs comparable to that of a conventional house. It is designed for long-term use with minimal upkeep." The floating house is composed of two sections: a superstructure resembling a standard tin-roofed house and a substructure that enables the house to float. It includes essential features like a bathroom, kitchen, veranda, and water tank, making it functional both during and after floods. The team has built a 1:6 scale model for preliminary testing, with a cost of 7,000 taka. Naim further mentioned, "We're awaiting funding. With the necessary budget, we can construct the full house within three to four days."
