A five-year-old girl named Airin lost her life in a house fire in Rajarhat, Kurigram. The tragic incident happened when she was locked inside the house. The fire broke out around 11:30 PM on Friday (February 14) in the West Sukdeb area of Vidyananda Union. Airin was the daughter of Alam from the same village.
According to family members and locals, the child had been left alone at home while her family attended a nearby religious gathering. Around 11 PM, a fire broke out, quickly consuming the house and its contents. Airin, unaware of the fire and locked inside, tragically died in the blaze.
Abu Taher, the Station Officer of Rajarhat Fire Service, said they received the fire alert around 11:30 PM. However, by the time they arrived, the house was completely destroyed. The child's burnt body was found on the bed and later handed over to the police. Initial findings suggest the fire was likely caused by an electrical short circuit.
Rajarhat Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Taslim Uddin confirmed that the door had been locked while everyone was outside when the fire occurred. It is believed the child died in her sleep due to the fire. After completing legal procedures, the authorities returned her body to the family for burial.
