Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina informed parliament that 8,67,977 landless and homeless families have been rehabilitated under the Ashrayan project, benefiting over 43.39 lakh people. In a session chaired by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, she announced that 58 districts and 464 upazilas across five divisions (Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Khulna, Rajshahi) are now free of landless and homeless people. Additionally, she noted that the social safety sector allocation has increased 9.12 times from Tk 13,845 crore in 2008-09 to Tk 126,272 crore in 2023-24, comprising 16.58% of the national budget.
