Shib Narayan Das, the renowned freedom fighter credited with designing Bangladesh's first flag, passed away at the age of 78. He died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, survived by his wife and son. Born in Cumilla, Das actively engaged in politics following the Language Movement. He endured imprisonment for his involvement in the 1962 education movement and was a prominent leader of the Chhatra League. Das played a pivotal role in the creation of the "February-15 Force" flag, which featured a yellow map of Bengal within a red sun on a green backdrop. His contribution was acknowledged by President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and other political figures, who expressed condolences to his family.
