The Department of Immigration and Passports in Bangladesh has revoked the official passports of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her cabinet colleagues, and former members of parliament. The move follows the dissolution of the 12th parliament and the re-establishment of the Prime Minister's post. Sheikh Hasina, who resigned as prime minister, fled to India amid a student-led mass uprising. Sheikh Hasina is currently in India, seeking political asylum in Western countries. The agreement between Bangladesh and India allows holders of official and diplomatic passports to visit India without a visa and stay there for 45 days. Sheikh Hasina can stay in India for at least one and a half months without a visa, while her sister Sheikh Rehana holds a UK passport and will receive a visa upon arrival in India. If the red passport is cancelled, former ministers or MPs with criminal cases or arrests may need to go through the legal process to obtain normal passports.
