Sanjit Biswas (45), arrested in connection with the vandalism of a Durga idol under construction at Hari Mandir and Kali Mandir in Bhanga Bazar, Bhanga Upazila, Faridpur, last Saturday night (September 14), has been confirmed as a Bangladeshi citizen, not Indian, according to a press release from the Faridpur District Police on Tuesday (September 17). The police stated that Biswas is the son of Nishikanta Biswas from Nizampur village in Kashiani Upazila, Gopalganj district. After media reports on Monday, Sanjit’s father, Nishikanta (72), contacted the police upon recognizing his son's photo. He confirmed that the arrested individual is indeed his son and revealed that Sanjit is mentally ill. Sanjit had gone to India for work in his mid-20s and lived there for an extended period. Although he returned to Bangladesh, he left home about four years ago and has been missing ever since, with no contact with his family.
