Remittances into Bangladesh increased significantly in May, up 32.35 percent over the same month the previous year, as migrants sent more money home in advance of the Eid-ul-Azha holiday. The Bangladesh Bank reports that remittance receipts in May were $2.25 billion, up from $1.7 billion in the same month the year before. The official statistics shows that money transfers from Bangladeshi expatriates overseas increased to $2.043 billion in April, a more than 21% increase from the same month the previous year, which fell around Eid-ul-Fitr.
