Martyr Selim Talukder will forever be a sorrowful chapter in the blood-soaked history of the July uprising. Seven months after he was tragically shot and killed while taking part in a just movement led by students and the public, his daughter was born—never to meet her father.
On Saturday, March 8, at around 8 PM, Selim's wife, Sumi Akter, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl at a private clinic in Jhalokathi town.
Selim Talukder, a 28-year-old from Mallikpur village in Nalchiti upazila, Jhalokathi, was shot on July 18 of the previous year while participating in a student-led protest in Madhya Badda, Dhaka. After fighting for his life in the hospital for 13 days, he succumbed to his injuries on July 31. His death came just three days before what would have been his first wedding anniversary on August 4.
