During a discussion today, speakers highlighted the alarming rise in traffic congestion on the city's streets, noting that commuters are unable to benefit from the increased public transportation options due to the growing number of private vehicles. “The traffic congestion in the capital is costing around 8.2 million working hours daily. The heavy reliance on private vehicles is causing disorder on the roads, preventing people from taking advantage of the enhanced public transport,” they stated. The discussion, titled “A Great Opportunity to Reduce Air Pollution,” was organized by the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) at the DTCA Bhaban in the capital. The speakers also pointed out that while 'Car Free Day' has been observed in the country for many years, no sustainable measures have been implemented to manage the number of private cars on the streets.
