Chittagong has experienced significant flooding and damage to its fish farming sector, resulting in losses of around Tk290 crore. The floods have washed away 16,864 fish farming ponds across 5,541 hectares, resulting in the loss of 16,595 tons of fish. The flood also caused infrastructural damage amounting to Tk24.7 lakh. The Muhuri Project in Mirsharai, the largest fisheries project in the country, has been washed away by the floodwaters, causing large carp fish to disperse into various water bodies. The fisheries sector in other upazilas has also suffered significant losses due to the flooding. The extent of the damage may increase further, affecting fish farmers and those involved in the sector.
