Mohammad Enayetur Rahman, founder and CEO of Ulkasemi, discussed with Bonik Barta the challenges and prospects of Bangladesh's semiconductor industry. Initially, there was little awareness about semiconductors in Bangladesh, making it difficult to explain and promote the concept. Starting with just four people in 2007, Ulkasemi now operates in the USA, Canada, India, and Bangladesh. The global semiconductor market, currently valued at $600 billion, is expected to reach $1 trillion in six years. Despite Bangladesh having only a few semiconductor companies, there's significant potential. The shift of American companies away from China presents an opportunity for Bangladesh to become a key player if it can move from design to production. Rahman emphasizes the need for government support in workforce development and subsidizing expensive software to enhance the industry's growth. Ulkasemi's clients include major companies like Meta, Google, Microsoft, and Apple, highlighting the potential for Bangladesh's semiconductor sector.
