Dr. Syed Mehbub Ul Qadir, a physician at Bangladesh Eye Hospital, stated that around 1,300 individuals were hospitalized in Dhaka, including at the National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital, Lions Eye Institute, and Dhaka Medical College Hospital's ophthalmology department. Of these, 630 patients underwent surgery, with over 90% experiencing vision loss in one or both eyes. Many patients have either already lost their vision or are at high risk of becoming visually impaired, highlighting the urgent need for rehabilitation. Similar cases have been reported nationwide, though specific data is still pending.
