On Thursday morning, Nahid Hossain was supposed to take part in his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination. But just hours before the exam, tragedy struck his family. On Wednesday night, his father, Akhter Hossain, passed away while undergoing treatment at Cumilla Medical College Hospital. His sudden death cast a heavy cloud of sorrow over their home in Barohargila village of Lalmai upazila, Cumilla.
Despite the immense grief and the unbearable pain of losing his father, Nahid did not let the situation stop him from fulfilling his academic responsibility. With his father’s body lying in the yard of their house, Nahid gathered the strength to attend the exam as scheduled. He appeared for the SSC examination at Harishchar High School and College, which is located in the same upazila, representing Mataiankot High School.
After completing his exam, Nahid returned home, where the grief was still fresh in the air. In a heart-wrenching scene, he carried his father’s body on his shoulder to join the final farewell. The funeral prayer and burial of Akhter Hossain, who was only 45 years old, were held on Thursday afternoon at their village. Initially, the burial was scheduled for the morning, but it was postponed to 2 PM so that Nahid could sit for his exam.
This touching and emotional incident has left the entire village mourning, deeply moved by the young boy’s strength, dedication, and love for both his father and his education.
