According to a recent study by the Cyber Crime Awareness Foundation (CICAF), social media and online account hacking are the most prevalent cybercrimes in Bangladesh, constituting 21.65% of incidents from April 2023 to April 2024. The study interviewed 132 victims, predominantly young adults aged 18-30, with 59% being women. Consequences include social (47.72%), financial (40.15%) losses, and emotional distress. Surprisingly, only 12% sought legal action, with few reporting benefits. Education levels were varied: 40.9% completed higher secondary education, 21.21% graduated, 16.66% finished secondary education, and 12.87% lacked formal education. New cybercrime types doubled to 11.85% in a year, with 11.35% related to pornography. Experts stress indigenous cyber solutions through public-private partnerships, training, and skill development for cyber sovereignty protection.
