However, government data shows that this severe flood has affected 5 million people across 11 districts, causing 18 deaths. BRAC reports that 8 million people have been impacted, with 4.5 million losing everything. Additionally, at 8:30 AM on Sunday (August 25), 16 sluice gates at the Kaptai Hydroelectric Power Station were opened due to rising water levels in Kaptai Lake from ongoing rainfall and upstream runoff. This has increased the risk of renewed flooding in some areas of Chattogram.
