Uber has obtained a license from the transportation department in New Delhi, India, to operate buses as part of its ride-hailing platform. The license falls under the Delhi government's app-based premium bus aggregator system, which aims to encourage the upper middle class to use public transportation. Uber will run buses on routes connecting business centers and residential areas around Delhi, with each bus seating 19 to 50 people. The company has been running a test program for its Uber Shuttle service in Delhi and is also operating buses in Kolkata under a Memorandum of Understanding with the West Bengal government.
