A young man was beaten to death on suspicion of being a mugger in Tongi, Gazipur, on Tuesday (February 25) around 10:30 PM in the Mashimpur area. The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed by the police.
According to the police, the incident began around 7:30 PM when a group of people detained the youth near Tongi Station Road, suspecting him of mugging. They then took him to a nearby sand field and beat him. After he died from his injuries, the attackers left his body at the scene. The police arrived around 11 PM after being informed and recovered the body, which was taken to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital.
Tongi East Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Faridul Islam stated, "The body has been recovered and transported to the hospital. After preparing the inquest report, it will be sent for an autopsy to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue. Legal proceedings are ongoing."
