A writ petition was filed in the High Court on Wednesday, seeking the cancellation of all power supply agreements between Bangladesh and India's Adani Group. The public interest petition, submitted by Barrister M Kayum, argues that the contracts are "unfair and one-sided" and urges the government to reconsider or revoke them. A legal notice was previously served to the government on November 6, demanding action within three days, leading to the filing of the writ after the deadline passed. The petition specifically targets the Ministry of Power and its officials, challenging the 25-year power purchase agreement signed in 2017 with Adani Group, which currently provides electricity from its 1,600-megawatt plant in Jharkhand, India. The petitioners are also requesting the formation of a review committee to evaluate the agreements and ensure fairness, with the Power Development Board (PDB) and Ministry of Power asked to submit relevant documents for review.
