On Wednesday night, hundreds of women gathered in Lalmatia for a torch rally, calling for an immediate ban on public smoking. The rally, organized by "Mohammadpur Bashi," began around 10:30 PM. The women raised their voices with slogans such as "No place for addicts in Bangladesh" and "Ban public smoking immediately." As the rally progressed, local residents joined in, showing their support for the cause.
The participants voiced their growing concerns about the rising levels of drug abuse in the area, particularly among the youth. They pointed out that young people are openly engaging in substance abuse, a troubling trend that is having a detrimental effect on children in the neighborhood. Samina Yasmin, one of the protesters, emphasized the harmful impact of smoking, stating, "Smoking causes various harms. Public smoking affects children and non-smokers the most."
