BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas stated, "We will not easily accept any reform made by them, whether through their hands or pens. If they introduce reforms, we will make corrections. BNP, in collaboration with other political parties, will work on these corrections and present them to the nation." He made these remarks during a discussion meeting and iftar mahfil organized by the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) branch of BNP on Saturday.
He further said, "We will not accept reforms being carried out with the help of so-called intellectuals who are not even citizens of this country." He alleged that these reforms are being implemented to benefit specific parties.
On this matter, he added, "We want to introduce as many reforms as necessary for the elections and hold a fair electoral process. Whoever comes to power through the elections, we will accept them with greetings."
Mirza Abbas firmly stated that BNP will not accept any decision made by an unelected government or individual. Addressing the interim government, he remarked, "Your role is to make electoral reforms. Any remaining reforms will be handled by the elected government."
Urging against pushing the country toward unrest, he said, "We want peace. The people of this country have suffered imprisonment for years. We have also endured many imprisonments. We do not wish to go through that again. After many years, peace has returned to the country due to the struggles of Dr. Muhammad Yunus and the people of this nation. Please do not lead the country toward instability."
