Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated, "We do not want to become another Gaza. We do not want to witness any more wars." He made these comments while addressing a street rally held as part of a public outreach event at Sheikh Bazar in Khagrabari, Jagannathpur Union, Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, on Monday evening. His remarks were made in response to the Bangladesh interim government's recent policy-level approval to establish a humanitarian corridor for Myanmar's Rakhine region.
Mr. Alamgir expressed his concerns by saying, "In regard to providing a humanitarian passage to facilitate communication with the Arakanese people, the decision made by the Yunus government should have been taken after discussions with all political parties." He warned that such a move could endanger the "independence and sovereignty" of the country.
While speaking about the issues of reform and elections, Mr. Alamgir questioned, "What is reform? I do not understand this concept. What I do understand is democracy; what I do understand is the people's rights." He emphasized that the primary responsibility of the Yunus government is to hold an election, reminding that the people had entrusted Professor Yunus’s interim government with that crucial task. Stressing the importance of national security and public welfare, Mr. Alamgir stated that conducting elections must be the government's highest priority. He further added, "While addressing reforms, you must also make arrangements for elections. Announce a proper election date and outline a clear roadmap as soon as possible. The people of this country are eager to see their own government in place."
