Ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election, large numbers of people have started leaving Dhaka to return to their home districts to cast their votes. From Tuesday morning (February 10), major highways, including the Dhaka–Mymensingh route, saw heavy congestion, creating scenes reminiscent of Eid travel rushes.
Traffic crawled from Abdullahpur to Gazipur Chowrasta, with severe jams reported near College Gate and other parts of Gazipur. Passengers also complained about transport workers charging higher fares due to bus shortages, adding to the commuters’ struggles.
Although Wednesday (February 11) is the last working day before the election, many voters left early to travel with their families. Bus terminals and Kamalapur Railway Station saw long lines for tickets, with several travelers saying the chance to vote after years made the extra effort worthwhile.
