A horrifying incident of mob violence took place in Char Arkarmi village, located in Bhola’s Char Fasson, where a man named Shahajahan Mintiz, aged 40, was brutally attacked by locals over allegations of theft. On Sunday morning, the villagers reportedly captured him, broke his limbs, and gouged out his eyes in a savage display of aggression. It wasn’t until the local police arrived that Mintiz was rescued and quickly transported to Char Fasson Hospital for medical treatment.
Mintiz’s wife, Fatema Begum, expressed her distress, stating that her husband was abducted, mercilessly beaten, and left mutilated, all based on mere suspicion. On the other hand, the villagers defended their actions, accusing Mintiz of being the leader of a notorious theft ring and claiming that he had been involved in numerous criminal activities. They also pointed out that he had followed in the criminal path of his late father, ‘Chidu Chora,’ who was infamous for his own criminal activities.
According to local residents, a series of recent burglaries in the village had heightened the community’s anger, leading to a heightened suspicion towards Mintiz. When the villagers saw him near his residence, they chased him down, catching him near the house of Jahangir Farazi. They then proceeded to violently assault him by a nearby pond. Following the attack, the police intervened, rescuing Mintiz and transporting him to Dhaka for further medical treatment. Char Fasson Hospital’s emergency medical officer confirmed the severe nature of his injuries, and the Officer-in-Charge of South Aicha Police Station assured that legal action would be taken following the investigation into the incident.
