In 2019, Abrar Fahad, a student at BUET, was brutally murdered by activists of the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL). Following the ban on the organization, Abrar's brother, Abrar Fayaz, expressed relief on social media, stating that those who suffered at the hands of the BCL, including his brother, had finally received justice. In a Facebook post, Fayaz praised the decision and reflected on the pain caused by the organization. The Ministry of Home Affairs justified the ban, citing BCL's involvement in violence, oppression, and various criminal activities, particularly over the past 15 years. The organization faced accusations of murder, torture, sexual assault, and terrorism, with some leaders and activists proven guilty in court.
