The US Embassy in Dhaka has announced a $235,000 grant under the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) to restore the historic Mughal-era Musa Khan Mosque.
US Ambassador Brent T. Christensen announced the funding at an event held at the Curzon Hall of Dhaka University, alongside Minister of Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury and Sabina Alam, Director General of the Department of Archaeology.
According to US Mission Spokesperson Poornima Rai, the initiative reflects a 25-year-long cultural partnership between the United States and Bangladesh, which has supported over $1 million across 13 projects in the country.
In collaboration with Bangladesh’s Department of Archaeology, the project will focus on restoring the mosque’s Islamic architectural features, creating a permanent digital archive, and training young architects to help preserve the nation’s cultural heritage.
