The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, held a courtesy meeting with the US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Brent T. Christensen, on Thursday (29 January) at 8:00 am at the party’s Bashundhara office in Dhaka.
The ambassador was accompanied by embassy officials, including Political and Economic Counsellor Eric Gillman, Public Officer Monica L. Sy, Political Officer James Stewart, and Political Specialist Firoz Ahmed.
The meeting was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. During the discussion, the two sides exchanged views on Bangladesh’s current political and economic situation, trade and industry, the upcoming national parliamentary election, state reforms, and the Rohingya issue, among other matters.
Ambassador Christensen praised Jamaat-e-Islami’s positive role in Bangladesh’s economic development and democratic progress and expressed hope that bilateral relations between the two countries would be further strengthened in the future.
Also present were Jamaat’s assistant secretary general and head of the central publicity and media department, Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair; central executive council member Md Mobarak Hossain; and the Ameer’s foreign affairs adviser, Professor Dr Mahmudul Hasan.
