Two teenagers have been detained for allegedly attempting to rob a shop using a toy gun in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh. The incident occurred on Friday morning (May 13) near Gate No. 2 of the Jamirdia Badsha Textile Mill area in the Habirbari Union of Bhaluka.
According to eyewitnesses, the two teenagers entered the shop around 10:30 am. They took out a gun-like object from their waist and threatened the shop owner, saying, “Give us whatever is in the cashbox, or we’ll shoot you.” One of them even kicked the glass display of the shop, which drew the attention of nearby shopkeepers who rushed in and managed to catch them.
Shop owner Mehedi Hasan said, “I had never seen these boys before. Suddenly they entered and pulled out something that looked exactly like a real gun. I was extremely frightened. But then other shopkeepers came and caught them before they could escape.” He added that officials from the army and Bhaluka Model Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after being informed, detained the two teenagers, and seized the toy gun used in the attempted robbery.
Md. Humayun Kabir, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhaluka Model Police Station, confirmed that the two boys had tried to extort money by threatening the shopkeeper with a toy gun. During primary questioning, the teenagers claimed they got the toy gun from a known local criminal. The police are currently working to locate and arrest that individual. The OC also said that a regular case is being prepared, and the teenagers will be sent to court after the case is officially filed.
