Two garment workers lost their lives after being struck by a vehicle in Banani, Dhaka, on Monday morning (March 10). The accident took place in the Chairman Bari area, but authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the victims.
Following the tragic incident, fellow garment workers took to the streets in protest, blocking both inbound and outbound roads, including the Elevated Expressway. Their demonstration led to severe traffic congestion during office hours, with thousands of vehicles stuck in long tailbacks. As a result, many commuters were left with no choice but to walk to their destinations.
Law enforcement agencies are currently working to bring the situation under control. In response to the heavy congestion, traffic authorities have implemented diversions at Banani-Kakoli Crossing and Mohakhali Amtoli, redirecting vehicles through alternative routes, including Gulshan-1 and Gulshan-2, to ease movement.
