After three and a half months of treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, 10-year-old twin sisters Sarinah Jahan Sayra and Saibah Jahan Sayma, who were injured in the Milestone School and College plane crash, have finally returned home. On Wednesday (12 November) morning, the institute’s director, Dr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, along with doctors and nurses, saw them off.
Dr. Nasir Uddin shared that out of the 57 people injured in the crash, 20 lost their lives, three are still receiving treatment, and 33 have been discharged. Sayra had burns on 30% of her body, while Sayma sustained 15% burns. He added, “With full government support, our medical team worked tirelessly to treat the victims, and follow-up care continues at the hospital.”
The girls’ parents, Yasin Majumder and Aklima Akter, expressed their gratitude for the hospital’s care and the government’s assistance. The tragic accident on 21 July at Milestone School and College claimed 36 lives and injured 124 people, with investigations later revealing pilot error as the cause.
