On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a private sector investment of up to $500 billion to advance artificial intelligence infrastructure, aiming to position the U.S. as a global leader in this critical technology. The initiative includes Stargate, a joint venture by OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, set to develop data centers and create over 100,000 U.S. jobs.
With $100 billion committed for immediate implementation and the remainder to be deployed over four years, the project’s first 20 data centers, each spanning 500,000 square feet, are already underway, starting in Texas. These centers will support AI applications, such as improving healthcare through electronic health record analysis.
The announcement, made at the White House, featured SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison, who praised Trump’s leadership for enabling the venture. “We wouldn’t have done this without you winning,” Son stated. Altman emphasized Trump’s role in advancing AGI technologies. It is unclear if this represents an update to an earlier initiative.
