In Shailkupa Upazila of Jhenaidah, a truck lost control, broke through a bridge railing, and fell into a river, killing two people. The accident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday at the old Bordah Bridge in the Garaganj area of the Jhenaidah-Kushtia Highway.
The deceased have been identified as Sohel Sheikh (27), son of Abul Kalam Sheikh from Gazamanikunda, Pabna Sadar, the truck driver, and Mobarak Hossain (20), the driver’s assistant, son of Zafar Mia from the same village.
Abdus Salam, Assistant Director of the Jessore Regional Fire Service, said the truck, carrying a load of wood, was traveling from Jessore to Pabna. Around 1:30 a.m., it lost control on the old Bordah Bridge, broke the railing, and fell into the Kumar River. Fire service units from Shailkupa and Jhenaidah launched a rescue operation. Mobarak Hossain’s body was recovered early Sunday morning, and Sohel Sheikh’s body was retrieved around 8:00 a.m.
Upon hearing of the incident, Jhenaidah District Commissioner Abdullah Al Masud visited the site.
