A trainee lawyer, Saiful Islam Alif, was killed in a clash in the Laldighi area of Chittagong city while protesting the detention of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of Bangladesh Sanatan Jagran Mancha. The incident occurred near the court building on November 26, at around 3:30 pm. Six others were injured and taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where Alif was declared dead. The protestors had blocked a police prison van for three hours, demanding Das Brahmachari's release. The situation escalated when police used tear gas and lathi charges, prompting the protesters to regroup in front of Rangam Convention Hall. In the absence of law enforcement, violence broke out, with stones and bricks thrown, resulting in several injuries.
