A 66-year-old woman, identified as Selina Mozammel Jhorna, died in Rajbari after her scarf got caught in the wheel of a moving rickshaw. The accident occurred around 9:30 AM on Monday (April 6) in the Panna Chattar area of Rajbari town.
The deceased was the mother of Sohel Mia, President of the Baliakandi Upazila Press Club. She was the wife of the late Mozammel Hossain Mia from Baliakandi Sadar Union of Baliakandi Upazila.
According to local sources, she had come to Rajbari Court that morning with her daughter and son-in-law for an urgent matter. After leaving them there, she was heading by rickshaw to a hotel near the railway gate for breakfast when the accident occurred. Her scarf got entangled in the moving rickshaw wheel, causing strangulation. Locals rescued her and took her to Rajbari Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Dr. Belayet Hossain, a doctor at the hospital’s emergency department, confirmed that she was brought in dead. He stated that preliminary findings suggest she died due to severe pressure or strangulation in the throat caused by her scarf getting caught in the rickshaw wheel.
Rajbari Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khondaker Ziaur Rahman confirmed the incident, stating that the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy, as there were no complaints and at the family’s special request. However, an unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident.
