A BNP leader has lodged a Tk 10 crore defamation case against National Citizens Party (NCP) leader Sarjis Alam for allegedly spreading false propaganda linking the BNP to the murder of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin. The case was filed on Tuesday morning at the Gazipur Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court by Tanvir Siraj, president of Basan Thana BNP.
According to lawyer Siddiqur Rahman, the court accepted the case and directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate.
Tanvir Siraj claimed Tuhin was killed for recording footage of a criminal gang, but Sarjis Alam, without verifying facts, posted on Facebook accusing the BNP of involvement, damaging the party’s reputation. GMP Commissioner has since confirmed the murder had no political link.
On August 7, Sarjis Alam alleged in a Facebook post that BNP activists were behind the attack and killing, later editing the post to replace “extortionist” with “mugger.”
