A child named Asiya, who was tortured in Magura, passed away today around 1 PM while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital. The ISPR confirmed her death in a press release.
Following her passing, online activist and blogger Pinaki Bhattacharya shared a status on Facebook, expressing grief. In her post, she wrote that there are no rapists in Paradise and that no one will disturb Asiya's sleep there. She mentioned that if someone dies after being tortured, they attain the status of a martyr, and according to the Quran, martyrs are not considered dead. She added that Asiya has now found peace in Allah’s Paradise after escaping the suffering of this world.
Pinaki also prayed for Asiya’s well-being in the afterlife and condemned those responsible for her suffering, saying that both their present life and afterlife should be filled with torment. She ended her post with a verse from the Quran: "We belong to Allah, and to Him we shall surely return." (2:156).
Meanwhile, the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, expressed his condolences over Asiya’s death. His Deputy Press Secretary, Apurba Jahangir, stated that the Chief Advisor has directed authorities to ensure swift justice against those involved in the torture.
Asiya was reportedly tortured on March 5 while visiting her sister’s house in Magura. Following a complaint from her mother, police registered a case of rape and arrested her sister’s husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law. They have since been taken into remand for further investigation.
