Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon has expressed concern that many students today are increasingly motivated by the desire to go viral, reflecting a shift in youth behaviour.
Speaking at a workshop on World Intellectual Property Day 2026, organised by the University Grants Commission on Sunday (26 April), he said that many young people tend to react and comment instantly on issues without proper reflection or analysis.
He also observed that even students in uniform often make inappropriate remarks about teachers and ministers, which he said raises questions about discipline and overall direction among the youth. According to him, the growing trend of Facebook Live and viral content has encouraged people to speak or comment without understanding the purpose or impact.
The minister further highlighted weaknesses in Bangladesh’s intellectual property system. He said the country is falling behind in protecting innovation and patents, as many local inventions are being registered abroad due to administrative shortcomings. He stressed the need to strengthen research capacity, innovation systems, and legal protection mechanisms in Bangladesh.
