In the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, Bangladesh secured a 1–0 victory over India on Tuesday. Sheikh Morsalin scored in the 13th minute, and India failed to equalize afterward.
After the win, Hamza said, “The dream of defeating India has been fulfilled; by the grace of Allah, we have won.”
This is Bangladesh’s first victory in the Asian Cup Qualifiers.
Bangladesh defeated India in football after 22 years. To celebrate this historic achievement, Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan announced a reward of Tk 2 crore for the national team.
Previously, Bangladesh had beaten India 2–1 in Dhaka back in 2003. The two teams have faced each other 30 times so far.
With today’s win, Bangladesh now has four victories, along with 13 draws and 13 losses.
Since Hamza Chowdhury and Shamit Som joined the squad, Bangladesh’s football has begun to change. Against Hong Kong, Bangladesh played a hard-fought match that ended in a draw.
In the other match, they suffered a last-minute defeat after being close to securing a draw. Before the India match, Bangladesh also drew with Nepal in a friendly, conceding late in a game they should have won. This made today’s victory over India even more exhilarating.
