During Eid al-Adha 2026, a small temporary zoo set up in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza became a rare source of comfort for displaced children and families.
Reports indicate that the makeshift attraction was organized as part of Eid celebrations in the camp, where ongoing conflict, displacement, and severe economic hardship have made traditional festivities difficult.
The temporary setup included a limited number of animals, such as monkeys, birds, and other small creatures, offering children a brief chance to experience moments of joy and normal childhood recreation. Families gathered around the site, and many children were seen interacting with the animals and enjoying a short break from the difficult conditions of daily life.
