Shahbagh police have arrested a university employee, Mostofa Asif Arnob, on charges of harassing a female student on the Dhaka University campus. Arnob, an assistant binder at the university's central library, was detained following an accusation made by the student, who claimed in a Facebook post that she was harassed while traveling to the campus from Shahbagh on Wednesday.
After Arnob's arrest, a group of people identifying themselves as "Tawhidi Janata" gathered at Shahbagh Police Station around midnight on Wednesday, demanding his release. They declared they would stay at the station until Arnob was freed, continuing their protest until 5 AM. In addition, a video has surfaced on social media, showing a group of individuals debating what charges should be filed against the female student.
