BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu stated that Tarique Rahman is the sole mastermind behind the student and public movements, having taken all necessary steps to create an effective movement. Speaking as the chief guest at a symbolic protest organized by the Bangladesh Citizens' Rights Movement in front of the National Press Club on Saturday (October 12), he noted that Sheikh Hasina has tried to eliminate the BNP for 16 years, but Tarique Rahman has skillfully protected it. The gathering aimed to demand the establishment of an acceptable and neutral Election Commission and the prompt announcement of an electoral roadmap. Dudu emphasized that change doesn't happen overnight, using the analogy that childbirth takes nine months, and expecting a child to be born in one month may result in a stillborn. He highlighted the struggles of the people over the past 16 years, including bloodshed and the abduction of students, workers, and farmers. He argued that if a one-month movement is considered sufficient, that is misguided. Dudu insisted that the sooner elections are held, the quicker democracy can be restored, allowing an elected government to demonstrate its capabilities. He urged the government to recognize that if it fails, the independence and democracy of Bangladesh will be at risk, calling for a decision to hold elections as soon as possible.
